Twenty Brooklyn churches received an early holiday gift when representatives from Maimonides Medical Center presented them with grants to help defray the costs of their Christmas displays.
The annual ‘Celebration of Light” drew clergy members from area parishes to the hospital, 4802 10th Avenue, where they received the seed money — $1,000 a piece — from Maimonides’ President Pamela Brier and Douglas Jablon, vice president and special assistant.
The Celebration of Light, which originated at Visitation Monastery on Ridge Boulevard, offers parishioners an opportunity to sponsor an ornament, a display piece or a whole tree as part of a fundraising mechanism, which ties in with the holiday season.
The illuminations will be ignited by a peace light from Bethlehem, which will be flown into New York in early December.
