One of Brooklyn’s most environmentally friendly buildings received an infusion of a different kind of ‘green’ last week.
Assemblymember Joan Millman presented a $250,000 check to the Brooklyn Center for the Urban Environment (BCUE), money that will go towards its new state-of-the-art headquarters at 168 Seventh Street in Gowanus.
The $4.2 million center is on schedule to be the borough’s first LEED-certified building for commercial interiors by the United States Green Building Council. LEED, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a measure of a structure’s environmentally friendliness.
The building’s grand opening is scheduled for May 10.
It will be aiming for LEED certified gold
