Hats off to reporter Helen Klein’s guest column in the May 1 issue, “Saving the Planet.”
It is a welcome juxtaposition to Stanley Gershbein, whose misguided, sometimes means-spirited rants about Al Gore and the global warming conspiracy are ludicrous.
While I concur with Ms. Klein that plastic bags are harmful to the environment, I find the cloth bags are much too small to accommodate a twice-weekly grocery purchase. When my purchase includes such large items as canned, cardboard or plastic bottles (that can be recycled if disposed of properly) of juice and other large items (1/2 gallon of milk), I would need three or four of them to contain my order, so I reluctantly stick with the not-so-eco-friendly plastic ones to accommodate my items.
However, I often reuse them several times on subsequent visits in an effort to help a little. Nevertheless, I was pleased to see her broach this life-on-earth-threatening topic. You go green, girl!
Please take note, Mr. G: Green is better than mean.
