At least one firefighter was injured and a shop cat remains missing after a Fifth Avenue pet supply store caught fire Wednesday afternoon.
The blaze broke out at Park Slope Pet Supplies between 21st and 22nd streets just before 4 pm on May 26.
Smoke engulfed the shop as FDNY personnel attempted to subdue the fire, and New York’s Bravest broke windows on the second floor of the building to allow for fresh air.
At least one smoke eater was injured in the blaze.
Firefighters rushed their fellow hero out on a stretcher as the shop’s owner — who was standing on the sidewalk screaming for the shop’s cat — refused medical attention.
The feline, last seen inside the store, has not yet been accounted for.
FDNY did not immediately respond to a request for additional information.
The blaze is not the store’s first struggle since the pandemic broke out. The vendor reportedly faced eviction last fall, and launched a last-ditch online fundraiser to help save the business, all while owner Peter Papadatos donated to local animal rescues and parishes in need, Patch reported.
His GoFundMe has raised more than $17,000 toward a $30,000 goal — and features a photo of the pet shop’s cherished cat.
