Harvest fest and canine contest add to fall spooktacle at Narrows Botanical Gardens

Mocha the wag-nificent Rottweiler came dressed to thrill as Wonder Woman while Chico, a long-haired Chihuahua from Bergen Beach, arrived in the fall spirit — gussied up as a doggone scarecrow.

The phant-astic pooches tickled the funnybone plenty, and were among the spooktacular sights at the Narrows Botanical Gardens on Sunday where a harvest festival and canine costume contest had two- and four-legged pals sharing the spotlight to celebrate the golden season, plus the calendar’s freakiest day.

The vollie-run garden on Shore Road and 71st Street morphed into a paradise for tail-waggers and weekend revelers, alike, as happy hounds strutted their finery, eliciting “oohs” and “aahs” from fawning spectators during the 15th annual spooktacle.

Among the winners were Larisa Beskina’s black beauty Ricky, who claimed the Best In Show category with his devil dog costume, Bensonhurst poodle Skittlez who won for being the Most Unique — we think that might have had something to do with his lilac-dyed tresses — and majestic Bath Beach mutt Rowdy who barked off the competition for Best Craftsmanship with his regal King Pup costume.

Handcrafts, a kiddie pumpkin patch and square dancing added to the fundraising revel.
