Beth El Jewish Center of Flatbush is not only a sanctuary for worshippers, it is also a treasure trove for history buffs.
The venerable synagogue building at 1981 Homecrest Avenue, constructed in 1927, has been installed in the National and New York State Registers of Historic Places because it has “historic significance” and is “worthy of preservation.”
Center members joined area dignitaries to ceremoniously dedicate and mount a plaque to the exterior of the handsome building, which represents an important part of the history of the borough’s Jewish community.
Untouched by alteration, the edifice is an eloquent example of design that was utilized by houses of worship in the first part of the 20th century,
