The naysayers are wrong: you can go home again.

About 100 former residents of the Breukelen Houses went home again on Aug. 6 — attending the Breukelen Association’s 31st Annual Friends and Family Day.

Gathering on E. 105th Street between Glenwood and Farragut Roads in Canarsie, guests gorged themselves of a host of barbecue delights as they basked under the warmth of old friendships and good memories. The fun trip down memory lane took place in between rousing games of hoops, horse and buggy rides around the complex, and entertainment provided by a Michael Jackson impersonator.

Anthony Barnes, president of the Breukelen Tenant Association, said that the Friends and Family Day capped off a week of events that included Bingo nights and a gospel music concert.

“Our Friends and Family Day is a great time where everyone can come back and enjoy where they first started out,” Barnes said. “People love to come back and see what has changed and what hasn’t changed.”

Barnes said that the Friends and Family Day was such a success, he’s already planning next year’s.
