Firefighters raced to the corner of East 45th Street and Avenue N Thursday after a mattress inside an apartment went up in flames.
Witnesses said that firefighters were called to the building at 1 p.m. on May 29 after smoke was seen coming from the first floor.
The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes, officials said. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters said that the blaze was confined to a mattress that was found on the first floor.
