INSIDE ART

Gowanus artists
will open their studios to the public Oct. 25 and 26, from 1
pm to 6 pm. Nineteen buildings housing more than 70 artists are
located on both sides of the Gowanus Canal, which poetically
enough was labeled "Lavender Lake" during its most
fragrant, polluted years.

Now the purple nucleus around which artists’ studios have sprung
is the place to discover emerging artists (before their price
tags become prohibitively expensive). Among the artworks on display
ais Regina McFadden’s "Dreamscape2" (pictured). The
two buildings housing the most artist studios are 295 Douglass
St. at Third Avenue, and 543 Union St. at Nevins Street.
