JAZZ ART

JAZZ ART

As part of the third annual Central Brooklyn
Jazz Festival, designer Bonnie Sterling and Fashion Flyte, a
coalition of Brooklyn designers and models, have organized "Jazz
of Fashion," a fashion show featuring eight designers.

The modeling will be set to live music performed by sax player
Theodros Avery and recorded music by vocalist Torrie McCartney.
The show, says Sterling, is intended to explore how jazz has
influenced fashion and how fashion has influenced jazz. She wants
you to be the judge.

Among the designers featured on the catwalk is Hakima Hape. (Sue
L. Hogue’s illustration of Hape’s denim coat and skirt of men’s
ties is pictured at left.) As jazz musicians improvise in their
jam sessions, Hape imaginatively weaves together a new look out
of assorted vintage materials.

"Jazz of Fashion" kicks off at 7 pm on April 11, with
an art exhibit featuring fashion photography and Hogue’s illustrations.
The event will be held at Medgar Evers College auditorium, 1650
Bedford Ave. at Crown Street. Tickets are $30. For more information,
