If you’re looking for a new way to combine
the fun of crafts with a girls’ night out, consider throwing
a Bead Spa soiree.
Gravesend native Lenore Solmo, 46 (pictured below), has been
successfully designing jewelry for more than two decades, transforming
Italian lead crystal into works of art using her own decoupage
technique. Now, she’s bringing her joy in jewelry making into
living rooms with the launch of her new business, Bead Spa, which
kicked off with a party on Feb. 3.
Solmo says she finds inspiration for her designs in the flea
markets, museums and streets of New York, and describes her style
as "romantic yet trendy." Her jewelry and handbags
have been featured everywhere from "In Style" magazine
to NBC’s "Extra."
Bead Spa parties of up to 10 can be held in Solmo’s Bay Ridge
studio or in your own home or office. For $46 per person, she
will provide everything needed to host a two-hour beading soiree:
wine, "inspiring music," light finger food, supplies
and her instruction on how to create trend-driven fashion jewelry
in what she calls "a Zen-like environment."
"Working with one bead at a time keeps you in the moment,"
says Solmo. "It has a very calming effect."
Solmo has simplified her techniques so that anybody can learn
how to make beaded brooches or pendant necklace and earring sets.
Bead Spa is open, by appointment only, on Wednesdays, Thursdays
or Fridays, from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. For appointments and more
