Play ball!
More than 1,200 teenagers enrolled in the Police Athletic League’s summer day camp got the chance to play at Coney Island’s Municipal Credit Union Park last Wednesday in the annual Cops and Kids Softball Championship game.
The 97-year-old league, the largest nonprofit youth organization in the city, provides mentoring relationships between off-duty officers and teens.
But this week, there weren’t enough officers to field a team, so the kids played a pick-up game before watching the second-place Brooklyn Cyclones clip the Williamsport Crosscutters, 3-2, thanks to Javier Rodriguez’s bottom-of-the-ninth RBI.
The lesson as always — kids rule!
