Kings Plaza shoppers flipped for pint-sized acrobats and kickboxers from Aviator Sports and Events Center on Saturday, tumbling out the “oohs” and “aahs” as sassy jocks staged a dynamic demonstration for the mall’s Kings Kids Club.
Sarah Carson, 9, of Aviator Artistic Gymnastics, ran somersaults around the competition, her fabulous floorwork drawing claps and cheers from the lobby crowd. The PS 312 student from Bergen Beach is a level-six achiever at Aviator — after level 10 it’s onto the Olympics! — and her aerial wizardry left her number-one fan beaming with pride.
“She is completely passionate about gymnastics!” raved mom Elaine, who added that her pride and joy practices for 12 hours a week to reach such lofty heights.
Marine Park “Mary Lou Retton” Veronica McNally, 8, proved she was also head and shoulders above the rest by executing a wow back walkover.
“It’s when you arch your back backwards, kick your legs over and stand up,” explained the PS 277 student, who also went head over heels for the applause. “I felt very happy and proud,” she admitted shyly.
The girls’ drills were part of an afternoon of athletics at the Marine Park shopping center, including kickboxing and fitness — complete with fun sack races — to inspire and motivate kids to get involved in healthy activities.
