The Brooklyn Women’s Chorus presents “We Were There,” the untold story of women in the American labor movement, June 13 at 8 p.m.
From Harriet Tubman and Sojourner Truth, who organized their people for freedom, to the brave women of today who work for healthy working conditions and fair wages, “We Were There” inspires.
Projected images of women throughout labor history, readings in the women’s own words and traditional labor songs bring the past to life. Chorus members have chosen their favorite songs of peace and justice for the second set and will also sing a new arrangement of “Bridge Over Troubled Water.”
With the conviction that any woman can sing, the Brooklyn Women’s Chorus brings together women of many different levels of musical experience. Now 11 years-old, the chorus is flourishing as a place where women build confidence through practice and performance and use music to express their collective belief in social justice.
