It’s a double play!
The Cyclones will attempt double revenge on the hated Staten Island Yankees when the teams play a rare single-admission doubleheader on July 1 at MCU Park. This game will make up for the postponed original home opener on June 18, which was called due to rain.
Single admission double headers, formerly a staple of major league baseball, have gone the way of the dodo, because owners can get more money by charging for two tickets, playing one game in the early afternoon and one at night. They are used primarily for make-up games.
The Cyclones have lost the first two contests against the despised Yankees. The doubleheader will give the Cyclones a chance to even up the season record with their much loathed cross-Narrows rivals.
The first game will begin at 6 pm and a 20- to 30-minute intermission will come between the games. Both of the games will last only seven innings, in keeping with the minor league stipulations on doubleheaders.
The game will also kick off the Cyclones’ Meaningul Mondays program, where $3 from every ticket will be donated to Coney Recovers which is helping people still suffering from the aftereffects of Hurricane Sandy.
