They embraced the spirit of the season.

Locals gathered at Kaiser Park in Coney Island on Oct. 13 for an array of autumnal activities at the Fall Festival, sponsored by the Parks Department and Councilman Mark Treyger (D–Coney Island). The event offered fall fun for the littlest of Brooklynites, according to one attendee.

“It was good, the kids had a lot of fun decorating pumpkins and jumping up and down in the bouncy houses,” said Bensonhurst resident Maria Cordova, who attended with her 9-year-old son, Justin. “They had a great time.”

The tykes also got their faces painted and snacked on popcorn and cotton candy at the festival.

Members of the Guardian Angels crime-prevention group also attended the event to meet locals and forge bonds with community members, according to one of the vigilantes who manages the group’s Coney Island chapter.

“It was great. There were a lot of young kids and they enjoyed it,” said Jose Gonzalez, who lives in Canarsie. “We’re always trying to participate in community-based events.”
