A man was shot in the leg by police as they attempted to arrest him in connection with a murder investigation Friday afternoon.
At approximately 11:50 a.m. on Jan. 5, authorities say NYPD officers from the Brooklyn Warrant Squad attempted to stop a vehicle which was being operated by an individual who was wanted in connection with a homicide.
A struggle ensued as officers attempted to make the arrest at the corner of Georgia and Liberty Avenues in the confines of the 75th Police Precinct in East New York, which resulted in officers discharging one round which subsequently struck the man’s left leg, according to police.
The man was taken to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center in stable condition while the officers involved were moved to an undisclosed area hospital for evaluation.
According to a report by ABC 7 Eyewitness News, one officer was evaluated for tinnitus — or ringing of the ears.
The NYPD declined to release the names of the officers involved or that of the suspect.
According to police data, the 75th Precinct encompassing East New York and Cypress Hills has seen a decrease in major crimes in the past year. However, the precinct has reported a 10% increase in major crimes in the 28 days preceding Dec. 31, 2023.
