Jamestown 9
Cyclones 5
Aug. 4 at Jamestown
Jeff Roy had three RBIs, including two in the fifth inning to give Jamestown the win over the Cyclones.
Jamestown took a quick 2–0 lead before L.J. “Mini-Maz” Mazzilli hit his first professional home run in the fourth inning. The deep shot over left-field wall scored Gavin Cecchini, who previously doubled.
The Clones piled on three more runs in the fifth after they loaded the bases. Cecchini forced a walk to drive in an unearned run, then Mazzilli and Jared King each got RBIs singles before Jamestown hurlers contained the damage.
The Jammers matched the Clones in the fifth by loading the bases on three singles. Brooklyn pitcher Juan Urbina the walked Adam Frazier, driving in an run. Roy then hit a two-run line drive down the right field line, and Jonathan Clark’s fielding error allowed the third run to come home as well.
The Cyclones couldn’t come back from the deficit as the offense remained stagnant the rest of the way. Mazzilli’s fifth inning RBI single was the last Brooklyn hit of the day, and Jamestown relievers Buddy Borden, Henry Hirsch, and Brett McKinney combined to retire 10 straight Cyclones to avoid the sweep.
The Cyclones get a day off tomorrow and return to MCU Park for a three-game series against the Oneonta Tigers starting on Tuesday at 7 pm.
The team sits at 23–23, just one game behind the pace set by the Hudson Valley Renegades, who are 25–23.
