Councilman Vincent J. Gentile announced that extended service hours for the mobile library van at the Fort Hamilton Branch.
Per Gentile’s request, the Brooklyn Public Library extended hours for the Fort Hamilton book mobile, which sits in front of the closed Fort Hamilton Library. The bookmobile will now be open Mondays from 1-6 p.m. Wednesdays’ hours will remain the same, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Gentile, who chairs the Council’s Library Committee, met with library officials to formulate the request.
“I saw the need to add later hours at the bookmobile to accommodate students and people who couldn’t get to the library in the afternoon,” he said.
Last month, Gentile announced that the Brooklyn Public Library added another day to the mobile library schedule to help library patrons while the library was closed for renovation and expansion. He was successful in allocating $3.36 million of city funds to expand and renovate the library located at 95th Street and Fourth Avenue in Bay Ridge.
The Bay Ridge library is currently closed to the public and the construction work is set to begin.
The bookmobile has been placed in front of the library to serve the needs of patrons while the library branch is closed.
At first the bookmobile was scheduled to appear outside the branch only once a week. Yet, in response to requests from Gentile, the Brooklyn Public Library added another day to provide an additional day of service.
