Brooklyn-based, all-female Bella Voce Singers and Artistic Director Jessica Corbin present “I Hear Music in the Air” at St. Saviour’s Church, 611 Eighth Avenue in Park Slope, May 18 at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $10.
This spring-themed choral journey will take listeners from England and Ireland to Hungary to India and back to America.
Special guest, harpist Emily Johns, will be performing on a number of pieces, including Gustav Holst’s Choral Hymns from the Rig-Veda, a stunning set of four Hindu hymns, translated by Holst himself from the ancient sacred texts. She will also be accompanying the choir on several Irish songs, as well as Wäinämöinen Makes Music, a song about the Finnish wood-god Väinämöinen by Hungarian composer Zoltán Kodály.
Pianist Keiko Asakawa-Golden will accompany the women’s choir on “Three Hungarian Folk Songs,” by another Hungarian composer, Béla Bartók. She’ll also play for some of the Irish songs and pieces by American composers Moses Hogan, Gwyneth Walker and Clifton J. Noble, Jr.
Bella Voce Singers is an independent, not-for-profit women’s 32-member multigenerational group dedicated to excellence in singing.
This program will be repeated June 1 at 3:30 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 7420 Fourth Avenue at Bay Ridge Parkway in Bay Ridge.
