Fresh from its international hot dog eating contest this Fourth of July, Nathan’s Famous is continuing the hot dog craze with a deal that takes customers back in time.

In honor of National Hot Dog Day on Wednesday, July 17, the iconic eatery will serve up hot dogs for just 5 cents — a throwback to the original price when Nathan’s opened in 1916.

Established in 1991 by the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, National Hot Dog Day coincides with the annual hot dog lunch on Capitol Hill, where members of Congress, lobbyists, and journalists gather for a picnic feast. Since then, the day has inspired special offers at restaurants nationwide, celebrated every third Wednesday of July.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Wednesday, participating Nathan’s locations, including the flagship on Surf Avenue in Coney Island, will honor this century-old deal. But, customers should still pack their wallets — there’s a limit of two hot dogs per order at this nostalgic price.

July holds special significance for Nathan’s of Coney Island, which recently crowned a new champion in its annual hot dog eating contest. Patrick Bertoletti claimed the men’s title by devouring 58 franks, while Miki Sudo set a world record and won her tenth title in the women’s division earlier this month.
