New leadership at the helm of BRCC – Arlene Keating becomes neighborhood organization’s 58th president

A year after he accepted the gavel from Barbara Vellucci, Bay Ridge Community Council (BRCC) President Robert Cassara has passed it on to the organization’s new leader, Arlene Keating.

Keating was elected to the post during the group’s May meeting, which was held at William McKinley Intermediate School, I.S. 259, 7301 Fort Hamilton Parkway. Keating is the organization’s 58th president.

Also elected were Andrew Windsor as first vice president, Janet Gounis as second vice president, Eleanor Sabbagh as treasurer, Gloria Melnick as executive secretary, Linda Orlando as recording secretary and Kevin Carroll as corresponding secretary.

Because each of the candidates was running unopposed, Robert Kassenbrock, BRCC’s recording secretary, cast a single vote for the entire slate of officers.

The officers will be officially sworn into their positions during the group’s June 5th dinner dance at El Caribe Country Club, 5945 Strickland Avenue.

BRCC’s Board of Directors for 2008-2009 was also elected during the May meeting. Besides Cassara and Kassenbrock, the new members of the board are Vincent Bocchino, Judy Cooper, Joan Curran, Calvin Fischetti, Alex Deeb, Howard Dunn, Dawn Hansen, Jonathan Judge, Shirley Kennedy, Patricia Killen, Peter Killen, Maria Makrinos, Donna McClellan, Edmund Moderacki, Mary Quinones, Peter Scarpa, Marge Sullivan and Eileen Tynion.

Before the meeting adjourned, Melnick paid tribute to Cassara’s efforts during his tenure as president. “I want to thank Bob,” she told the group, “for the energy he put into the Bay Ridge Community Council this year.”
