Nightlife comes alive! Bill Roundy in living color

Bar toons! Our nightlife cartoonist makes the big time
Bill Roundy

Every Friday, Bill Roundy blesses us with a fresh Bar Scrawl, rendering a beloved or just-opened pub in cartoon form with a keen eye and steady hand.

Now, for the first time, readers can go inside this one-of-a-kind bartoonist’s creative process thanks to a video (below) by our pals over at the blog Bedford and Bowery. The clip fills us in on how Roundy went from freelancer-in-the-know to Brooklyn bar god (it all started when he got laid off after Sept. 11, but instead of drowning in his sorrows, he learned to draw while watering them a little) and includes such revelations as how he keeps those lines so clean, a barkeep’s review of his review, and how Brooklyn Paper fame has impacted his social life.

But left mysterious is where he gets that excellent shade of purple nail polish. We will have to ask him the next time we see him at our local watering hole.

In the meantime, cheers, Roundy!
