They’re running in circles — and that’s a good thing!

Greenpointers who wear Asics for function, not fashion, will be off to the races on Saturday morning at McCarren Park for Brooklyn’s first-ever outdoor track meet.

North Brooklyn Runners and the Open Space Alliance are co-hosting the McCarren Park Track Classic, featuring fourteen races, including men’s and women’s two-mile slogs, a 400-meter sprint, and exciting four-by-200 relays at the 8-year-old oval,

The club, which has called the McCarren Park track home for the past three years, is holding the event to whip its joggers into shape and prove that the neighborhood’s runners are the fastest in the city.

“We’re super excited to have runners from all over the city on our home turf and for them to experience all of the wonders that North Brooklyn has to offer,” said North Brooklyn Runners race director Katie Winther “The McCarren Park Track Classic will rally our community together as we make history with the premiere of this fast-paced and fun run.”

Registration remains open, meaning there’s still time for North Brooklyn racers to prove their likeness to Steve Prefontaine isn’t just aesthetic, it’s also athletic.
