The inferno broke out at 1760 Union Street near Rochester Boulevard just after 1:45 p.m., and around 60 FDNY personnel across 12 units rushed to the scene.
Firefighters located the source of the blaze on the third floor of a large six-story building, and battled the fire for nearly an hour until it was finally put under control at 2:36 p.m., the FDNY said.
After the flames were extinguished, first responders found one person with severe burns, and pronounced them dead on the scene.
