Art is popping up all over!
This is the weekend for open studios! In addition to the Park Slope and Windsor Terrace artists opening their doors, art students at Pratt Institute and creators in Ditmas Park and Red Hook will welcome visitors to their creative sanctums. Here are the details on all three events:
Fine in Flatbush
The fourth annual Flatbush Artists Studio Tour on Nov. 12–13 offers quality over quantity, according to one of its organizers.
“Flatbush has quite a few globally renowned artists who are well-established in their careers,” said CJ Segal-Isaacson, a jewelry artist. “Compared to Bushwick Open Studios, which is great — but those are mostly emerging artists.”
Among the 25 artists displaying their work in Ditmas Park and Prospect Park South this weekend are Guo-Qing Zhang Heaton, who creates abstract sculptures from Chinese laquer, and Juan Carlos Pinto, who crafts images out of discarded MetroCards.
And the Flatbush tour has an added attraction — the stately Victorian houses where many of the artists have their home studios. Visitors can expect both fine art and fine architecture, said Segal-Isaacson.
“It’s a beautiful tour — the streets are wide, the leaves are falling, and the houses are beautiful,” she said.

Masters of Pfizer arts
Those hunting for the art stars of tomorrow should stop by Pratt Institute’s Masters of Fine Arts Open Studios on Nov. 12. The tour of upcoming artists is compact: the newly renovated Pfizer Building features 81 studios on its seventh floor, along with critique rooms and fabrication shops. You can wander the halls and meet student sculptors, painters, and performance artists in the space where they create. A curated shows of the best work with hold a reception from 6–8 pm.

Hooked on art
Almost 100 artists in Red Hook plan to show off their stuff during Red Hook Open Studios on Sunday, Nov. 13. More than a dozen locations in the waterfront nabe, mostly along Van Brunt Street, will be artistic hotspots from 1 to 6 pm, and then an after-party at Hot Wood Arts (481 Van Brunt St. 9B at Reed Street) will feature refreshments and three hot bands until 9 pm.
