In these hard economic times, you must be careful with your money. As much as you may like to tote a Rebecca Minkoff satchel around town, dropping $500 on a purse is just plain crazy nowadays (unless you’re independently wealthy, of course).
Fortunately, there are ways to watch your wallet and remain chic. Loehmann’s on Emmons Avenue in Sheepshead Bay and Century 21 on 86th Street in Bay Ridge offer great deals on designer duds, but they can sometimes still be pricey. That’s why Pumps & Pleats was happy to discover AJWright, located in the Triangle Junction mall on the corner of Flatbush Avenue and Avenue H.
The store, which is a sister company of T.J. Maxx and Marshalls, has made a name for itself as a super inexpensive apparel, shoes and accessories shop for the entire family. Many of these items are really low-end and poor quality (think bags without brand names), however, you can find discounted designer goods on the overflowing racks — you just have to scrounge around for them.
With a lot of patience, Pumps discovered some great deals amid the clutter. A surprise hit was a pair of green Union Bay cargo capri pants reduced from $34 to $17. For a casual weekend look, you could pair them with a red T-shirt with gold graphics by Apple Bottoms ($13).
The unexpectedly large handbag collection occupies several rows in the middle of the store and is arranged by color. In the pink section, Pumps found Kimora Lee Simmons’ Baby Phat hobo in faux crocodile for $28, which was a nice discount from the original $58 price tag.
The collection of Guess bags was pretty impressive, in particular, a champagne satchel with gold padlock reduced from $98 to $50. Any Guess girl would love that discount!
With these kinds of prices, AJWright definitely has the right stuff.
