The next Ice Age has hit Williamsburg.

Sometime last week, an unknown substance started dripping out of the back of the former Union Ice ice cream shop, according to a commentator on the website Reddit. Whatever it is has since covered the entire alley behind the storefront on Union Avenue at the corner of Grand Street in several inches of ice.

The ice cream shop apparently opened for one summer in 2010 and shuttered once the warm weather ended, never to reopen. Neighbors we spoke to were not aware of the creeping frozen carapace overtaking their backyard, but the freaky covering could melt away this weekend, when temperatures are expected to hit 50 degrees.

The owners of the building could not be reached for comment.
