A 62-year-old pedestrian died after he was struck by the driver of a sports utility vehicle in Midwood on Aug. 28.
The senior citizen was hit on Avenue P between East 5th Street and Ocean Parkway, at 8:22 pm. According to the Highway Patrol Collision Investigation Squad, the victim was trying to cross the street in front of a double-parked vehicle when a man driving a sports utility vehicle struck him. Police say the driver stayed on the scene.
According to police, officers found the senior citizen unconscious and unresponsive, with severe trauma. The victim was transported to Coney Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
