Performing a bit of ‘Self Surgery’

Choreographer and Brooklyn Arts Exchange (BAX) Dance Artist in Residence (2007-09) Sam Kim presents a work in progress showing of “Self Surgery,” June 20-21 at 8 p.m. and June 22 at 6 p.m.

The new dance work thrusts highly personal experiences of body panic into a precise, antiseptic framework. With uncompromising honesty, “Self Surgery” exposes the horror and reverence we feel for the magnitude of the body’s potential.

The body can leak fluid, explode matter, and literally fray its own nerves. In cultural protest, “Self Surgery” cuts through the ubiquitous celebration of the youthful, highly controlled body, and instead, looks clinically at the mind-body connection gone deranged.

Admission is $15; $8 for low income individuals. For more, call 718-832-0018 or visit www.bax.org. BAX is at 421 Fifth Avenue at Eighth Street in Park Slope.
