On May 12, you’ll definitely want to hoof it over to Empire–Fulton Ferry State Park for the seventh annual Brooklyn Pigfest. Starting at 1 pm, the park will go barnyard with four expert barbeque teams, a trough’s worth of Brooklyn Brewery suds, and a performance by local bluegrass six-piece, the Cobble Hillbillies.

“We start cooking on Friday morning,” said Waterfront Alehouse owner Sam Barbieri. “It takes about 22 hours to cook the whole pig, but it’s good practice for future competitions.”

Barbieri and his team are happy to work alongside the other pit masters at the event — from which all of the proceeds are being donated to the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy — because “we’re not competing here, we’re complementing one another.”

Though the price of admission might break a piggy bank, the entry ticket includes all the beer you can drink, making it a bit easier to wash down the heaps of meat and piles of sides.

Brooklyn Pigfest will be held at the Tobacco Warehouse at Empire–Fulton Ferry State Park (Water and Dock streets in DUMBO) on May 12 from 1–6 pm. Tickets are $75 in advance and $85 on the day of the fest. For information, visit www.brooklynbrewery…..
