PINA’S BACK

PINA’S BACK

It’s been three long years, but choreographer
Pina Bausch returns to the Brooklyn Academy of Music on Nov.
16 with "Fur die Kinder von gestern, heute und morgen (For
the Children of Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow)." And while
the piece’s title might be a mouthful for non-German speakers,
Bausch’s contemporary dance works, such as "Masurca Fogo"
– seen at BAM in 2001, tap into everyone’s shared humanity with
glorious collages of movement, music, dialogue and stage design.

"For the Children" (pictured) is a multigenerational
ode to dancers at each stage of their lives set against scenery
designed by Peter Pabst and music compiled by Matthias Burkert
and Andreas Eisenschneider. BAM is the only venue in the United
States to see Bausch’s work, and it marks the 20th anniversary
of her BAM debut.

Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch will perform "For the
Children" Nov. 16 and Nov. 18-20, at 7:30 pm, and Nov. 21,
at 3 pm, in the BAM Opera House (30 Lafayette Ave. at Ashland
Place). Tickets are $25, $50 and $75. For tickets and more information,
call (718) 636-4100 or visit the Web site at www.bam.org.
