Gunman fatally shoots 16-year-old in Bed-Stuy

A gunman fatally shot a 16-year-old boy in Bedford–Stuyvesant on Monday evening, sending police on a widespread manhunt to find two suspects. 

NYPD officers responded to a 911 call about the shooting at around 5:47 p.m., and rushed to the scene at 119 Marcus Garvey Boulevard, near the intersection of Willoughby Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found the teenage victim, Amiere Hayes, with a gunshot wound to his head.

Paramedics rushed the bloodied boy to Woodhull Hospital, where doctors pronounced Hayes dead. 

The shooting occurred just steps from Hayes’ home, according to police.

Police have not yet made any arrests, and they are looking for two suspects in connection with the shooting. 

One suspect was last seen wearing a black hooded sweater, white ripped jeans, black sneakers and a black facemask, while the second was last seen donning a black hoodie, gray ripped jeans, black sneakers and a blue facemask.

Both wanted individuals are approximately 16 to 18 years of age.

Between New Year’s Day and June 11, when the most recent NYPD data is available, there had been 9 victims of gun violence in the 79th Police Precinct, where Monday’s shooting occurred. That marks a 52.6% decline from the 19 victims during the same timeframe last year. 

Citywide, there had been 483 people shot on the streets of the Five Boroughs between Jan. 1 and June 11.
