Police: MTA bus driver fatally hit 70-year-old woman in Bed-Stuy then drove off

Police arrested a bus driver who they say hit and killed an elderly woman in Bedford-Stuyvesant early on Tuesday morning before fleeing the scene.

Seventy-year-old Carol Bell, who lived in a Brownsville women’s shelter, was crossing Fulton Street on Sackman Street at around 6:14 am when a driver allegedly plowed into her with a Metropolitan Transit Authority B51 bus — which was not in service at the time — as he turned right onto Fulton Street from Sackman Street, cops said.

The driver then allegedly drove away from the accident, authorities said.

Emergency medical responders pronounced Bell dead at the scene, according to a police report.

Police later caught up with the suspect and charged him for leaving the scene of an accident and failing to yield to a pedestrian, cops said.
