An investigation is underway in Crown Heights after a man was shot and injured outside of a local supermarket on July 10.

Officers found the 33-year-old victim lying face up on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds outside a Fine Fare grocery store at 261 Kingston Ave just after 9:30 p.m., according to police, after receiving 911 reports of gunfire in the area.

“You heard those shots clear as day,” nearby resident Clark Bryant told Brooklyn Paper on the scene. “I am hoping he makes it.”

The victim, who was not named, was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County, where he was in stable condition as of Thursday morning.

Cops are still searching for the unidentified gunman, who fled the scene and was last seen running westbound on St. John’s Place. Law enforcement was not able to provide a physical description of the suspect, and it’s not clear what motivated the shooting.

At least 11 shootings had been reported in the 77th Precinct, where Wednesday’s incident occurred, as of July 7, per the latest NYPD statistics. Homicide in the precinct has risen by 100% year-over-year, with six homicides reported so far in 2024.

Wednesday’s shooting marked at least the third incident of gun violence in the precinct in less than a month — on June 20, a 77-year-old ride-share driver left critically injured after he was shot in the head on Lincoln Place. Five days later, a group of four men allegedly shot a 61-year-old man near the intersection of Washington Avenue and St. John’s Place.

“When will this madness end?” asked another local resident, Ceil Roberts. “I am tired of the unneeded bloodshed.”
