Add to this weekend’s must-do list the
21st annual cherry blossom festival at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Preview the progress of the BBG’s Cherry Esplanade on the garden’s
Web site, www.bbg.org.

The Cherry Watch map will be updated through the April 27 weekend,
which coincides with the cherry blossom festival or "Sakura
Matsuri," offering a roster of more than 40 Japanese cultural
events: Taiko drumming; performances of Japanese classical, folk
and modern dance; calligraphy; bonsai tree pruning; doll-making
demonstrations; a tea ceremony and flower arrangement demonstrations
("ikebana").

All of the festival events, which take place 10 am to 6 pm on
both days, are free with paid admission to the Garden ($3, $1.50
seniors and students with ID, free for children under 16) and
will take place rain or shine. Get there early to avoid long
lines at the gate, and be sure to catch the blooming lilacs and
azaleas, too.

The festival schedule is on the hotline, (718) 623-7333.
