The Prospect Park Alliance held a benefit dinner at the Prospect Park Picnic House, Third Street and Prospect Park West, for the Park’s Tennis Center at the Parade Ground.
In attendance were Prospect Park Tennis Center Director Paul Campbell, Prospect Park Alliance President Tupper Thomas, Senior Vice President for Institutional Advancement Robyn Bellamy, City Council members David Yassky and Darlene Mealy, 2008 Martinez Scholarship recipient Iesha Reid, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and more.
The Prospect Park Tennis Center’s Junior Development Program has introduced tennis to thousands of local children, and, through scholarships, has included those who otherwise might not have the opportunity to play.
Special Aces, their program for children with special needs, promotes health, fitness, coordination, and confidence through experience on the courts. It is being expanded to three sessions a year so even more children can be apart of the program.
In 2006, the Prospect Park Alliance opened a new Tennis Center at the Parade Ground under the direction of Paul Campbell. This facility offers 11 courts, nine of which are Har-Tru surface courts and two are Deco-Turf hard courts.
The Deco-Turf hard courts are especially suitable for Junior play and USTA League and Tournament training. All the courts are open-air in warm weather months and protected under a bubble during the winter.
