Late-night television’s favorite DJ Questlove and his eclectic musical stylings are returning to Brooklyn Bowl on Sept. 26 to celebrate the venue’s 15th anniversary with a special edition of Bowl Train.
Known for his dynamic mixes of hip-hop, house, and rare grooves, Questlove will also be spinning classic Soul Train videos, indulging in a taste of nostalgia.
Questlove’s deep roots trace back to the venue’s inception, making him a cornerstone of the Brooklyn Bowl community. The funky DJ hosted the Bowl Train residency for seven years. The celebrated event featured surprise appearances from notable artists such as Talib Kweli, Nancy Whang of LCD Soundsystem, and Binky Griptite of Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings.
Lucas Sacks, director of booking for Brooklyn Bowl New York and Philadelphia, said fans and friends alike eagerly anticipated his return and the anniversary milestone.
“To say Questlove has been a part of the Brooklyn Bowl culture since the venue’s founding 15 years ago is an understatement,” Sacks said. “Brooklyn Bowl’s relationship with Questlove predates the venue by many years.”
Questlove’s influence on music spans over three decades as the co-founder and frontman of The Roots. Since teaming up with Black Thought in 1987, he has played a crucial role in shaping the sound of hip-hop, particularly within the neo-soul movement alongside icons like D’Angelo and J Dilla.
In addition to his contributions to music, Questlove has been a prominent figure in television, serving as the musical director for “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon” since 2014.
Soul lovers and Brooklyn Bowl fans can expect an unforgettable evening of music and memories. The Bowl Train will serve as both a celebration of the venue’s rich history and a testament to Questlove’s lasting impact on the musical landscape.

“Questlove has DJ’ed his Bowl Train series at Brooklyn Bowl hundreds of times despite his busy schedule and returns for pivotal moments for the venue, like anniversaries, Valentine’s Day, or special events,” Sacks said. “Bringing Questlove back to DJ a Bowl Train for our 15th anniversary was a no-brainer from the jump.”
