Ray Tintori may be only 26, but that’s not stopping the Brooklyn Arts Council from running a retrospective of his work.
As part of its yearly film festival “Scene: Brooklyn,” the council will screen shorts and other works by the filmmaker on May 13 at Galapagos Art Space.
Though hardly at an age where a retrospective would seem plausible, Tintori has a Sundance Film Festival award under his belt, has gained a following for his experimental music videos (MGMT, The Killers and Chairlift are among his clients), and has been tapped recently by Spike Jonze — another legend with a music video pedigree — to direct a feature.
“He’s a good example of the young, scrappy Brooklyn filmmaker,” said programmer Deirdre Corley, praising Tintori’s psychedelic videos for MGMT that mix animation and band footage. “For someone his age, he has quite a bit of work. We thought it would be fun to have him come and talk about what it’s like starting out and getting big so fast.”
Aspiring filmmakers still in diapers: take note.
