Celebrate Brooklyn’s Brooklyn Bridge Park dance party is not only hot, but now it’s wet, too.
The Prospect Park-based performing arts festival made the call this morning to move its Thursday night “get down and boogie” show from its regular location on Pier 1 to the adjacent Tobacco Warehouse in DUMBO.
But little else has changed. Sure, the party kicked off on May 12 with Maceo Parker, a funk musician whose laid down his gritty sax lines with James Brown, Parliament-Funkadelic, Bootsy Collins and Prince, but Thursday night’s show will be just as exciting, with salsa big band La Excelencia and DJS Aue Bajo?!.
If the rains ever stop, the dancing will return on May 26 to Pier 1 at the end of Old Fulton Street with bhangra enthusiasts Red Braat and DJ Rekha, just in time for Celebrate Brooklyn to kick off at the Prospect Park Bandshell on June 10 with Andrew Bird.
“The performers and DJs are prime examples of the diverse, world-class programming Celebrate Brooklyn is known for, and each is a treasure that exemplifies a particular genre,” said Jack Walsh, director of performing arts programs for BRIC, which produces Celebrate Brooklyn. “They all put on a great live show and lay down irresistible dance grooves.”
