Friends of Gerry Montello will present a benefit for the deceased Department of Environmental Protection worker in Bay Ridge, February 7 at 4 p.m.
The fundraiser will be held in conjunction with Councilmember Vincent Gentile at am Bar, 73rd Street and Third Avenue.
Montello was killed in an accident while working at Owl’s Head Waste Water Treatment Plant, leaving behind his wife, Donna, and their two teenage children, Gennaro and Brianna.
“Everything Gerry did, he did for his family,” said Gentile, adding, “Now, it’s our turn to pitch in to help Gerry’s wife and children when they need it most.”
The lawmaker is the prime sponsor of a bill that would grant Donna Montello health coverage for the rest of her life, and his children such coverage until the age of 19. If they are enrolled in an accredited college, the Montello children would be eligible for health benefits until they graduated, or turned 23 years of age, whichever comes first.
The benefit will include a 50-50 raffle and an auction of sports memorabilia and gift certificates donated by local restaurants.
