Hundreds of kids scoured Shore Road Park during Bay Ridge’s annual Easter egg hunt on April 4.

One neighborhood newcomer was blown away by the scale of the event, which turned the playground at 79th Street into a 6,000-count egg carton and attracted hundreds of families.

“We didn’t have anything like this in Chicago where I lived, so it was like ‘Wow, where did all these people come from?’ ” said Wendy Kim, who moved to Bay Ridge with her husband and toddler daughter Sophie two months ago.

It was their daughter’s first egg hunt, but the precocious tot picked it up quickly, Kim said.

“It was pretty tough to explain to a 16-month-old — she got the concept pretty quick though,” she said. “There was a limit of five eggs. She, of course, picked up as much as she could, but then she was giving them away.”

Another first-timer at the spring fling won first place in the Easter bonnet competition for a look she called “The Living Doll.” Her bountiful bonnet burst with lace and was topped by two stuffed-animal dogs — a look three-year-old Ariana Jalia crafted with her mom, the mother said.

“I love to do crafts — my daughter inspires that part of what we do together,” said mom Dalli Simmons. “I made it and she helped. She picked out the puppies that went on top.”

State Sen. Martin Golden (R–Bay Ridge) organized the rummage, and kids from Ft. Hamilton High School were among the volunteers who ran the event. A disc jockey spun tunes for adults, and the Easter Bunny dropped by to pose for photos with the kids.

Parents said they were glad the senator host annual egg hunts that are just a hop, skip, and a jump from their rabbit holes.

“Ariana has been talking about going to an Easter egg hunt for months now, and I was thrilled that there was one so near where we live,” Simmons said.

Tooting her own horn: Ariana Jalia won first place in the hunt’s Easter bonnet contest.
