And you thought FIFA was dirty!
Fitness fanatics flocked to Floyd Bennett Field on Saturday for a mud-filled fun run hosted by the Aviator Sports and Events Center, where nobody had a clean finish, according to one athlete.
“On my way home my cousin had to lay a towel down so I wouldn’t dirty his car,” said Sheepshead Bay resident Ralph Soto.
The event, called Rugged Maniac, is part festival and part obstacle course, with features including trampolines, a water slide and a fire jump among a total of 25 obstacles, which were all complimented by lots of mud and lots of beer.
And between the fun and the booze, everybody had a good time, according to Soto, who said he was inspired by the spirit of fellowship and good cheer to return for next year’s event.
“My favorite part was how group oriented the event was. Everyone in your group stayed together, meaning if you finished first you didn’t have to worry about looking for your friends, because everyone waited on each other,” Soto said “I just thought that was magical because many events don’t focus on that.”
That said, the Sheepshead Bay man would have done at least thing differently — brought a change of clothes, he said.
“Bring a pair of clothes, get ready to get down, get dirty and get soaking wet,” Soto said “On my way home my cousin had to lay a towel down so I wouldn’t dirty his car.”
The Rugged Maniac plans on returning to Brooklyn in 2020. The total cost for the past year was $110 and included a t-shirt, photos, a free beer and a medal. Those who do not wish to participate can go cheer on their friends for free.
