Just in time for summer strolling, the Bay News has learned that sections of the long-shuttered Shore Boulevard Mall will soon be reopened.
Chain-link fences stretching from the foot of Holocaust Park at West End Avenue down to Langham Street began going up two years ago as part of a $15 million effort to restore Manhattan Beach’s crumbling bulkhead.
The old wooden bulkhead partially collapsed just prior to Memorial Day 2005, taking a section of the 60-year-old Ocean Avenue footbridge along with it.
During the process of repairing the footbridge, inspectors realized that the entire length of the bulkhead had become dangerously undermined as a result of decades of corrosive tidal actions and watercraft-generated wakes.
