A mural depicting more than 80 African-Americans on U.S. postage stamps and their biographies was set up in the lobby of Brooklyn’s Restoration Plaza Station, 1368 Fulton Street.
Designed by Brooklyn illustrator Nancy Jackson, the mural was the brainchild of Restoration Plaza Tech 6 Pat Coombs, who had been handing out USPS Publication 354, which features all the stamps of African-American heroes, to local residents and school children.
When the publication was no longer available she wanted to do something to continue making that information available to the community, so after she talked with Jackson, the mural was born and then set up in the station lobby.
“It’s nice to show all the stamps here in the lobby,” Coombs said. “I get a request every day for Black Heritage stamps and now customers, and especially school children, can easily see all the stamps that are available and can read short biographies about each person. The community loves it. I didn’t expect such warm reviews from the customers
