Three cheers to Maimonides Medical Center for honoring new and innovative treatments and research.
The healing institution celebrated an “evening of research” at Dyker Beach Golf Club in Dyker Heights on April 21, where the faculty honored residents, fellows, and nurses for their accomplishments to advance the research community.
Ken Gibbs, president and chief executive officer, welcomed the invited guests and recipients, who included Dr. Stephan Kamholz, chairman of medicine; Dr. Matthew Yasavolian, emergency research fellow; Elizabeth Smith, pain and palliative care nurse; Dr. Sheriff Akinleye, orthopedic surgery resident; Dr. Austin A. Schlecker; Dr. Edgar Lichstein, former chairman of Medicine; pharmacy resident Russell Bardsley; Dr. Yu Shia Lin, pediatric resident; Dr. Hanna Siddiqui, dental surgery resident; Sepand Ghanouni; Dr. Vivek Kumar, internal medicine resident; Dr. Vijay Shetty, cardiologist; Dr. Chirag Agarwal, internal medicine resident; and Dr. Sunny Goel, internal medicine resident.
The keynote speaker was Dr. John A. Boockvar, director of the Brain Tumor Center and Pituitary-Neuroendocrine Center at Lenox Hill and Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospitals. Dr. Edgar Lichstein, former chairman of the Department of Medicine, received the Dr. Austin A. Schlecker Academic Achievement Award.
Awards were also presented to finalists and semi-finalists to honor their outstanding academic achievements.
