It was quite a performance by Brooklyn athletes at the New York State Federation outdoor track and field championship last weekend.
Midwood star Donald Williams placed second in the 100 meter dash in a time of 10.72 at Vestal High School. Darnelle Cummings of Millbrook won in 10.63. Williams was also a member of the first place 4 x 100 relay team with Andy Nicholas, Eric Williams and Alex Sterling in 42.06 beating Mount Vernon (42.28).
The Hornets’ Imani Oliver took home the girls triple jump crown with a leap of 40 feet, 2.25 inch. The senior also won the state indoor title in March. Olukayode Owolabi, the PSAL champion, was sixth on the boys side in the event in 44-07.50.
Robeson’s O’Neil Sandiford, who was battling a knee injury suffered at the PSAL championships last weekend, also defended his boys high jump title with a leap of 6-10. Boys & Girls 4 x 400 relay of Daniel Simon, Javaun Grant, Robert Rhodes and Earl Lucas placed second in 3:15.95 behind Newburgh Free Academy (3:15.02). Simon also places third in the 400 with a time of 49.74.
Sheepshead Bays’ John Thomas posted a third place finish in the 200 with a time of 21.85. Teammate Jose Farley was fourth in the 110 hurdles in 14.82. Bishop Loughlin’s Adrienne Alexander finished third in the girls shot put with a toss of 40-06.
Farrell’s Cory Duggan was fourth in the pole vault in 15-06. Adam Civitano of St. Joseph by the Sea placed fourth in the 400 meter hurdlers with a time of 55.67 and Clinton’s Jeremiah Obeng (55.92) was fifth. Cardozo freshman Akayla Anderson was fourth in the girls 100 meter hurdles in 14.85. Daniella Olusoga of Christ the King grabbed a fourth place finish in the pentathlon with a score of 3058.
