A man’s corpse was found floating in the Gowanus Canal on Monday afternoon, according to police.

The body was spotted in the fetid waterway beneath the Union Street bridge at 3 pm, an officer said. Fire personnel fished the fellow, who was fully clothed, out of the channel and pronounced him dead on the scene, cops said.

Officials have not identified the deceased but say he was discovered wearing gray sweatpants and a blue sweatshirt.

Divers were in the water investigating the scene at 5 pm, a witness said.

Department of Environmental Protection workers were also on hand.

The medical examiner’s office will perform an autopsy and try to determine the cause of death, police stated.

These gosh golly darn cops ruined my mid-work-day kayaking session down those pristine waters! I hate them - until I need them to save me from the icky people who attack me for my i-Products.

All jokes aside, there was a few fools kayaking in the canal not too long along ago. Lets this be a wake-up call to all of you transients thinking that BK is so "Cool, hip, & trendy". Its real out there, in case you didnt noticed.

Yes, jjm, this is a real feel good story for the nativists. Congratulations, Brooklyn hasn't changed as much as you'd feared.

jjm from c. hill says:
@Mike, its not a feel-good thing at all. Im just simply saying that people, mainly newbies, shouldnt get too comfy in gowanus. It used to be one of the war-zone areas of bk so dont think things cant get bad again just because you got these coffee shops & other useless crap built up.

jjm from c. hill says:
It actually might make it worse because whether some of you like it or not, there are still some real bk'ers over in that area so dont play them for a fool. They know you have money & other valuables. I probably can count on 1 hand of how many people i've seen who do NOT have an iphone or galaxy over there. Plenty of stick-ups are going on in & around there so im just giving the heads-up thats all.

Mike from Williamsburg says:
Well, it's not a war zone anymore. And that "useless crap' which attracts eyeballs to the former wasteland is helping to make it safer.

If you are walking out of Four & Twenty Blackbirds on 3rd Ave, you might as well be holding a sign saying 'I'm really out of place, and I would make a great victim'.

Who else but interloping transients would be going for a $40 pie?

That's right folks from Brooklyn says:
Remarkable how these authentic locals here equate 'real' Brooklyn with lowlife criminals who attack anyone looking 'out of place'. That pretty much speaks for itself.

I've been in 4 & 20 once while I was waiting for a meeting in the area. It's nasalmania in there. Thick frames on all; Mac book on every table; beardos with pie crumbs in their lice nests; ultra-smug staff - just as you would imagine it prior to walking in.
