From “In the Papers” to on our radio show!

NY1 legend Pat Kiernan joined Brooklyn Paper Radio this week to talk about the sorry state of American media, the sorry state of the American election and how being Canadian means never having to say you’re sorry for anything America does.

Kiernan was also on hand to promote is new kids’ book, “Good Morning, City,” which he wrote in the spare time he doesn’t even have (unlike you, Pat Kiernan doesn’t waste time binge-watching “Stranger Things”).

Joining Kiernan was randy poet Sharon Mesmer, whom Brooklyn Paper readers know as the woman who should have been named Poet Laureate of Brooklyn back in 2009. Mesmer shared several of her bawdy verses, including one about being naked in a grocery store (it’s a metaphor, people!).

Mostly, the show was dominated by the outsized personality of co-host Gersh Kuntzman of the New York Daily News, who grilled Kiernan repeatedly, but without success as the polite Canuck deflected every taunt. Kuntzman’s co-host Vince DiMiceli struggled to get a word in edgewise amid the avalanche of Kuntzman’s pomposity, though DiMiceli did share a bizarre dream he had about rampant crime on Staten Island.

It’s all part of another instant-classic edition of Brooklyn Paper Radio.

Brooklyn Paper radio is recorded and podcast live every Thursday at 4:45 pm — for your convenience — from our studio in America’s Downtown and can be found, as always, right here on, on iTunes, on Mixlr, and of course, on Stitcher.
