Sunset benefit aids Brooklyn Bridge Park

Psychedelic surf music, mythical revelry – plus a visit by Hizzoner – helped step off summer fun along the Brooklyn waterfront when the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy hosted its annual sunset benefit in Brooklyn Heights.

Mayor Mike Bloomberg joined borough officials, grassroots leaders and visitors on Pier 5, at the foot of Joralemon Street, for an evening of neighborly fun to raise money for a world−class recreation area along the East River, from north of the Manhattan Bridge to Atlantic Avenue.

While mom and dad danced to live music, the kids enjoyed their own pint−sized frolic with games, contests and more.

In addition, the Conservancy honored City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, outgoing Conservancy President Marianna Koval and the Sci−Fi Channel for their “dedicated support” of the future Brooklyn Bridge Park, which will stretch 1.3 miles and cover 85 acres of lawns, recreation fields, water access, esplanades and playgrounds when completed.
